feat(task-filters): enable searchable status & phase filters - #521
ThishankaM wants to merge 7 commits into
Conversation
- Set `searchable: true` for list‑view status filter.
- Set `searchable: true` for list‑view phase filter.
- Improves UX by allowing type‑search within dropdowns, respecting
theming, i18next localization, and accessibility rules.
fix(migrations): resolve transaction/index errors & improve task functions
- Removed explicit `BEGIN;` and `COMMIT;` from
`1769558401000_fix_recurring_tasks.js` and
`1770681600000_recurring_tasks_complete_fix.js` to prevent nested
transaction conflicts with node‑pg‑migrate.
- Updated unique index `idx_tasks_schedule_end_date_unique` in both
migrations to use `end_date::DATE` instead of
`((end_date AT TIME ZONE 'UTC')::DATE)`, fixing
“functions in index expression must be marked IMMUTABLE” errors.
- 1758499205000_verify_team_lead_implementation:
• Replaced `RAISE EXCEPTION` with `RAISE NOTICE/WARNING` to avoid
transaction aborts during permission checks.
- 1768995180000_add_calculate_member_capacity_function:
• Added `DROP FUNCTION IF EXISTS calculate_member_capacity(...) CASCADE`
before `CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION` to support return type changes.
All migrations now run successfully (`npm run migrate:up` exits with code 0).

The filter changes look good, but the migration fixes must be delivered as a new forward migration rather than edits to the historical migration files. Environments that have already applied 1758499205000, 1768995180000, 1769558401000, and 1770681600000 record those IDs and will not rerun them, so they would retain the nested transaction/index/function issues this PR is intended to fix. Please restore the historical migrations and add a new migration that safely applies the required corrections (including any needed function replacement) to existing databases. Once that is separated, the searchable-filter change is safe to approve.

official PostgreSQL documentation index expressions IMMUTABLE timestamptz date cast volatility
💡 Result:
PostgreSQL’s rule is that **every function and operator in an index expression must be `IMMUTABLE`**. The docs also warn that functions whose results depend on settings such as `TimeZone` should not be labeled immutable. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/sql-createindex.html?utm_source=openai))
So `timestamptz_col::date` is **not immutable**: converting a `timestamptz` to a calendar date depends on the session time zone. That conclusion follows from the docs’ description of `timestamptz`’s time-zone-dependent behavior and their volatility guidance; they do not explicitly name this cast’s volatility. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/datatype-datetime.html?utm_source=openai))
To index dates in a **specific** zone, make the zone explicit, for example:
```sql
CREATE INDEX ON events (((occurred_at AT TIME ZONE 'UTC')::date));
```
This expresses the intended date calculation independently of the session `TimeZone`; check that the expression is accepted as immutable on your PostgreSQL version. The documentation establishes the index immutability requirement, but does not specifically certify this expression. ([postgresql.org](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/sql-createindex.html?utm_source=openai))

Use a valid immutable date key before creating the unique index.
tasks.end_date is TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE. The end_date::DATE cast depends on the session time zone, so PostgreSQL rejects it in an index expression because the expression is not immutable.
Use a separate DATE value or an explicitly UTC-pinned immutable wrapper. Do not assume that restoring the earlier AT TIME ZONE 'UTC' expression is sufficient; the earlier migrations document that expression as non-immutable.
The recurring-task job calculates dates in each schedule’s timezone_name, while this index uses the database session time zone. Define one canonical date policy and use it for both the job and the unique key.
If the earlier index is absent, create_quick_task performs a plain insert and existing duplicate schedule/date rows may exist. Check and resolve those rows before creating the unique index.

The searchable-filter changes look reasonable, but the new recurring-task migration fails on the actual tasks.end_date type. Please correct the index expression before merging. I reproduced this on a disposable PostgreSQL instance, without accessing application data.

[P1] Keep an immutable UTC date expression for the timestamptz column. tasks.end_date is TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE (database/sql/1_tables.sql). Casting it directly to DATE depends on the session TimeZone and is STABLE, so CREATE UNIQUE INDEX here fails with "functions in index expression must be marked IMMUTABLE". I reproduced this with a minimal tasks(schedule_id uuid, end_date timestamptz) table: the existing ((end_date AT TIME ZONE 'UTC')::DATE) index succeeds, while this new end_date::DATE index fails. The comment describing the original expression as non-immutable is reversed for this column type. Retain the explicit UTC expression and address transaction wrapping separately; this forward migration currently breaks migrate:up even on a database that already applied the historical migrations successfully.

Rechecked 6040f39. The latest forward migration now uses the correct immutable UTC expression: I executed it successfully on a disposable PostgreSQL tasks(schedule_id uuid, end_date timestamptz) table, so the most recent index blocker is resolved. The earlier historical-migration concern remains for the other fixes: 1758499205000 and 1768995180000 are still edited, while the new forward migration only recreates the index. Existing installations that have recorded those IDs will never receive the permission-verification/function changes. Please restore those historical files and deliver any still-required function correction through a new forward migration, or remove those unrelated changes from this searchable-filter PR. No application data was accessed.
Remove the Team Lead verification migration and historical member-capacity migration from this PR. Their permission-verification and capacity-function changes are unrelated to searchable status and phase filters, and the same-day capacity correction is already present in main's later migration. Keep the recurring-task immutable-index forward migration unchanged.

Re-reviewed 7ab59cf after the latest commits. The searchable status/phase switches for both list and board look good, and the immutable UTC index expression is correct. All reported CI/CLA checks pass; 15 targeted frontend tests, migration-ID validation, and git diff --check passed locally.
Two migration rollback issues remain, detailed inline. On a disposable PostgreSQL 15 instance with only a minimal tasks table, the actual up migration succeeded; down left zero matching unique indexes and accepted two identical schedule/end_date rows. I also reproduced the deleted-definition errors using the installed node-pg-migrate migration-selection function with recorded historical IDs. No application database or data was accessed. Please restore the historical migration files unchanged and preserve uniqueness on rollback before merging.

[P2] Restore the preceding unique index on rollback
up drops and replaces an existing uniqueness guard, but down only drops the replacement. Rolling this migration back therefore leaves recurring tasks without their prior (schedule_id, end_date) uniqueness protection. I ran the actual up/down SQL on PostgreSQL 15 starting with the baseline index from database/sql/1_tables.sql: up succeeded, down left zero matching unique indexes, and two identical schedule/end_date rows inserted successfully. Recreate the preceding unique index in down (using the baseline raw timestamp key and existing non-null predicate), and cover the round trip. This independently confirms the automated rollback finding.

[P2] Restore both historical migration definitions instead of deleting them
The latest commit deletes this migration and 1758499205000_verify_team_lead_implementation.js; the earlier request was to restore their base versions unchanged. Existing installations retain these migration names in their applied history. When rollback reaches either name, node-pg-migrate cannot resolve its definition and throws Definitions of migrations ... have been deleted. I reproduced both errors using the installed runner's migration-selection function. The original down functions were explicit no-ops, so keeping their definitions allows history traversal; deleting them breaks it. Restore both files from development and keep any required corrections in a new forward migration.

Re-reviewed 4b5c784 after the latest development merge. Both historical migration files are restored and match development, resolving the previous deleted-definition blocker. The remaining rollback issue is unchanged: the forward migration creates idx_tasks_schedule_end_date_unique, but down only drops it and leaves no replacement uniqueness constraint. Please recreate the preceding unique index in down so rolling back does not allow duplicate recurring-task schedule/end_date rows. The earlier disposable-PostgreSQL reproduction already demonstrated that failure; this pass verified the current up/down SQL and restored files, without accessing an application database. The searchable-filter switches remain correct.
